After a warm summer day, the bustling Old Town of Cadaqués empties out for a short time in the early evening, before the night awakens. As is customary in Spain, bars and restaurants are not visited until late in the evening; before that, people relax, stroll, or admire the twilight of dusk after sunset with an aperitif.

Collioure was our first stop on our journey through the artistic triangle in Catalonia (as well as the places beginning with “C”): Collioure, Cadaqués and Céret. A walk through Collioure in the evening, on the coast of the Côte Vermeille in Southern France, thus offered a first impressive experience.
I covered the short distance from the campsite to the bays of Porteils by bike and therefore quickly reached my central starting point: the Château Royal, the imposing fortress in the town centre. It was the first time I had taken my old mountain bike on a trip, and I was thrilled by the added flexibility, range, and quicker access to photo spots.

On our trip to the south of France, we made a stopover in my Baden homeland for the first leg. After many years, we wanted to experience the sunset from the Hohenbaden castle ruins again. That’s why we stayed directly in Baden-Baden at the castle. The medieval Hohenbaden Castle (“Old Castle”) perches high above the town on the slopes of the Battert and offers a wide panoramic view over the Northern Black Forest, the Rhine Valley, Alsace with the Vosges, and the Southern Palatinate. The Hohenpeißenberg isn’t exactly a hidden gem, but it’s still well worth a visit. From the summit of this mountain in the Bavarian Alpine Uplands, you can enjoy an unobstructed panorama across the entire Alpine arc, from the Allgäu to the Chiemgau. The view to the north, overlooking the landscape south of Lake Ammersee and Lake Starnberg, is also lovely, but not quite as spectacular. Read more
On the way back from Umbria, we only had a far too short overnight stay in Limone sul Garda. We knew we wanted to come back again soon. At the end of October, the opportunity arose at short notice to extend the summer. To anticipate, I was not disappointed. I even managed to swim in the lake. Read more
Trausnitz Castle sits in a scenic spot above the old town of Landshut in Lower Bavaria. Although it’s only half an hour from my home, I’ve visited Landshut and the surrounding region less often than, say, Munich and the Alps. Yet there’s so much to see: the old town with its city gates and historic buildings, St Martin’s Church with the world’s tallest brick tower, and Trausnitz Castle overlooking it all. Read more
Autumn in Assisi is characterised by plenty of sunshine and pleasant daytime and nighttime temperatures. During the day, it wasn’t too hot for hikes and city walks, and in the evenings, it was warm enough to sit outside for a long time. The city was full of life, not just for the Feast of St. Francis. Our accommodation was a hotel in the west, slightly below the city, with a room featuring a balcony and a view of the old town, perfect for enjoying a local wine with a great view in the evenings. There, at the beginning of October, we could even still use the outdoor pool for a swim. Read more
