Dubrovnik at Sunset
/0 Comments/in Croatia/by MatthiasAfter a long journey and a stopover in Senj, we finally reached Dubrovnik. In previous years, we hadn’t made it quite so far, only reaching Korcula or Orebic on the Peljesac peninsula. To experience an unforgettable sunset in Dubrovnik, we had many options: with a panoramic view of the city and the sea from Mount Srd, at numerous viewpoints along the coastline such as St. Jacob’s, from one of the towers and battlements of the city walls high above the Old Town, or from a boat in the sea off the coast. Ascent to the Ramolhaus in the Gurgler Valley
/0 Comments/in Austria/by MatthiasAt sunset, the clouds cleared. A spectacular day’s tour in the Ötztal Alps concluded with a view from the Ramolhaus of the main Alpine ridge and the Gurgler Glacier, a sight no longer expected that day. This summer, on the tour to the Brunnenkogelhaus, I had already become acquainted with a part of the “quiet side of Sölden,” as the valleys and mountains away from the ski resorts are marketed. Now I returned to hike through another quiet and peaceful region of the Ötztal Alps on a two-day tour, crossing the Ramoljoch from the Gurgler Valley into the Venter Valley. Read more
After the Thunderstorm
/0 Comments/in Austria/by MatthiasOn the drive to Ackernalm in the Bavarian Prealps, the wide thunderstorm front approaching from the west caught up with me already in the Alpine foothills. Lightning flashed and heavy showers accompanied me for the remaining kilometres of the journey via Bayrischzell, the Ursprung Pass and finally up the toll road to the alm. Read more
Teufelsmühle – Paragliding into the Sunset
/0 Comments/in Germany/by MatthiasThe Teufelsmühle (908 m) rises above the Murg Valley near Gernsbach in the Black Forest. At the beginning of the 19th century, a viewing tower was built there by the Black Forest Association. From the platform, the view stretches far into the distance over the Rhine Plain, the Palatinate Forest, Alsace and the Vosges, as well as the Northern Black Forest up to the Hornisgrinde. Read more
Alpenglow at Lake Antorno and the Drei Zinnen
/0 Comments/in Dolomites/by MatthiasThe road from Misurina to the Auronzo Hut at the Drei Zinnen passes directly by the idyllically situated Lake Antorno. On calm days, the famous Drei Zinnen and the rock towers of the Cadini Group are reflected in its dark water. The sunsets in autumn are particularly beautiful when the rock faces in the southwest are illuminated. However, a break at the local inn, a photo session or a short walk around the lake is recommended at any time. Read more
Hiking at Cala Domestica
/0 Comments/in Sardinia/by MatthiasCala Domestica is a fantastic bay with turquoise water, set in a barren, mountainous, and earthy-coloured landscape in south-western Sardinia. Once rich in mineral resources, this region is now home to the remains of numerous mines and mining facilities: Masua, Buggerru, Piscinas/Ingurtosu, Montevecchio, and many more. The coast here is rocky and rugged, with inviting bays and beautiful sandy beaches nestled in between, perfect for swimming. Read more
