New Zealand, 1992/1997
New Zealand has always been large enough to be filled with dreams, longings, hopes, and clichés. Its remote position on the far edge of the Pacific has led to it being seen as a paradise or a retreat. Many New Zealand residents, such as the hard-working farmer or the sailor battling wind and waves, are happy to contradict this romantic view held by many tourists.
I travelled the country in 1992 and 1997 and experienced all seasons. At that time, I was still shooting with slide film, primarily Ektachrome 100 Plus or Kodachrome 64. Some of the images have already been scanned at high resolution, but a few shots are still awaiting post-processing, which is why image noise, or missing highlights or shadow detail, is often still present.
The panoramic shots of New Zealand’s landscapes show what awaits you in New Zealand. Take a look behind the cliché of New Zealanders with portraits of the people, or learn more about the fascinating Maori culture. Be warned! New Zealand can become an incurable passion.
