Coastal Landscapes and the Sea
Coasts are borderlands between the sea and the land, the elements of water and earth. The view of the open sea, the curving horizon, evokes a longing for distant places, appears threatening when a storm approaches – it can create various moods. I love the drama of steep cliffs, when mountains rise directly from the water, such as in the Lofoten or on the Amalfi Coast. I drove along dreamlike coastal roads, for example, along the Croatian Adriatic, on Madeira, in Sardinia, in New Zealand, or through the archipelagos in Sweden.
