Sunrise at Württemberger Haus

6 November 2011/0 Comments/in Austria/by Matthias

Sunrise at Württemberger Haus, Lechtal Alps, Tyrol, Austria

The time before sunrise is one of the most beautiful parts of the day – the cool freshness of the summer night and a peaceful silence still hang over the Württemberger Haus. Soon, the Schiefer-, Großberg- and Spiessrutenspitze peaks will glow in the twilight. This ensemble marks the first stage of today’s planned traverse to Memminger Hütte, ascending through the scree field and rocky terrain to the Großbergspitze (centre of the image). Read more

Evening Mood at Württemberger Haus, Lechtal Alps, Tyrol, Austria

While the last light of day illuminates the Bittrichkopf, the hungry hikers, after their day tours and an afternoon sunbath, are already having dinner at the Württemberger Haus. For the hut wardens, a full house also means a major logistical challenge to meet the guests’ wishes and demands. Read more

Arrival at Württemberger Haus

Württemberger Haus in Obermedirol, Lechtal Alps, Tyrol, Austria

From the Bittrischscharte, the descent on the eastern slope of Bittrichkopf (background, centre of image) leads past the lake ‘Auf der Lacke’ down to Württemberger Haus in Obermedriol, a high valley north above Zams/Landeck on the Inn. It’s still early afternoon, so there’s plenty of time to put up tired feet and enjoy the magnificent view over the Inn Valley to the main Alpine ridge – even from one of the deckchairs behind the hut. Through the Bittrichscharte to the Württemberger Haus

Bittrichscharte and Seekogel, Lechtal Alps, Tyrol Austria

After setting off from the Hanauer Hütte early in the morning, I already experienced a breathtaking mountain panorama on the way to the Bittrichscharte from the summit of the Kogelseespitze, which rises strikingly here on the left in the middle ground, and with Gufelsee and Bittrichsee, two splashes of turquoise and green in a wildly romantic landscape of rocks and alpine meadows. Panorama from the Kogelseespitze (2,647 m)

Panorama from the Kogelseespitze, Lechtal Alps, Tyrol, Austria

The Kogelseespitze (2,647 m) is an excellent vantage point, offering panoramic views of the main ridge of the Lechtal Alps, including the Parseierspitze, Leiterspitze, Bittrichkopf, the nearby Parzinn and Dremelspitze, as well as the Allgäu Alps to the north, behind the deeply incised Lechtal valley. The image above shows approximately 180 degrees from southwest to northeast. The summit of the Kogelseespitze lies about 270 metres above the Gufelseejoch, a pass from the Hanauer Hütte to Gramais or the Württemberger Haus, and is easily accessible via the southeast flank for sure-footed hikers. The Rock Pyramid of the Dremelspitze

23 October 2011/0 Comments/in Austria/by Matthias

The Dremelspitze near the Hanauer Hut, Lechtal Alps, Tyrol, Austria

With its battlements and towers, the Dremelspitze (2733 m) looks like a formidable rock fortress and, like the entire Parzinn group, is reminiscent of the Dolomites. The sharp peaks in the warm light of the low-lying evening sun cast long, dark shadows, emphasising the harsh rock lines. I sit alone at the heli-pad next to the hut, while almost all other hikers have already disappeared inside, and experience atmospheric moments. Read more

Climb to Hanauer Hut

23 October 2011/0 Comments/in Austria/by Matthias

Hanauer Hut in Angerletal, Lechtal Alps, Tyrol, Austria

The Hanauer Hut is majestically situated in a commanding position on a steep slope in the upper Angerletal valley. The short two-hour stage from the starting point Boden am Hahntennjoch left me enough time to thoroughly explore the area around the hut in the afternoon. Walking in nature quickly allowed me to leave everyday life completely behind. This summer day in the mountains – lush and fragrant meadows and pines, a refreshing Radler after a strenuous climb, and the gentle excitement in anticipation of new encounters, experiences, and challenges – felt wonderful.
