Radiant Autumn on the Great Ahornboden

15. October 2015/0 Comments/in Austria/by Matthias

Autumn forest on the Great Ahornboden, Karwendel, Tyrol, Austria

Gradually, the sun dissolved the stubborn morning mist still lying in the narrow and shady Riss Valley, and the golden autumn forest shone, first vaguely, then with full brilliance. A cloudless sunny day in October is the perfect time to experience one of the most magnificent natural spectacles in the Karwendel. Read more

Full Moon Night at Fiderepasshütte

4. October 2015/0 Comments/in Germany/by Matthias

Full moon and dawn over the Fiderepass Hut in the Allgäu, Germany

Late September 2015 brought a special full moon night: the full moon not only appeared larger due to its closer proximity to Earth, but it also passed through the Earth’s shadow that night, leading to a lunar eclipse and a so-called “Blood Moon” – a moon coloured red by rays deflected by the Earth. Sunrise over the Wildhorn

8. August 2015/0 Comments/in Bern/by Matthias

Sunrise over the Wildhorn in the western Bernese Oberland, Switzerland

The Wildhorn in the western Bernese Oberland, standing at 3,248 m with its remaining glaciation, is a majestic and challenging peak with attractive ascents from several sides, e.g. the Wildhornhütte, the Geltenhütte or the Cabanne des Audannes. There is also a multi-day, demanding and beautiful circular hike “Tour du Wildhorn” around the Wildhorn group, which leads through varied, wild and often lonely mountain and valley regions. Full Moon over the Totalphütte

10. July 2015/0 Comments/in Austria/by Matthias

Full moon rising in the last sunlight over the Rätikon, Vorarlberg, AustriaThe midsummer weather at the beginning of July 2015 brought plenty of sunshine and unusually warm temperatures, even in higher mountain regions like here at the Totalphütte at 2,385 m in the Rätikon. The cumulus clouds piled high in the warm air over the Swiss mountains, as well as the peaks of the Kirchlispitzen and Drusenfluh (2,827 m), glowed colourfully in the last light of the sunset, while the full moon simultaneously rose above the horizon – what a show! Mountains: A Source of Strength

9. July 2015/0 Comments/in Austria/by Matthias

Strength exercises at the Totalphütte, Rätikon, Vorarlberg, Austria

Mountains embody the immense forces of nature that operate over periods of time almost unimaginable to us. The extremes that have resulted from this, and which can still be experienced today – the inhospitable and inaccessible nature, the sheer massiveness and presence – also exert a beauty and attraction on us humans. A stay in the mountains can act as a catalyst for reflecting on one’s own existence and, for many people, serve as a source of strength for recovery and both physical and psychological development. At the Carschina Hut below the Sulzfluh

8. July 2015/0 Comments/in Grisons/by Matthias

Exercise bike for charging batteries at the Carschina Hut in front of the Sulzfluh, Rätikon, Graubünden, SwitzerlandIt almost seems as if the exercise bike with the dynamo was set up to make a red-gold sunset shine on the steep south face of the Sulzfluh above the Carschina Hut in the Rätikon. In fact, the bike is available to anyone who wants to use it to charge their mobile phone – for a full iPhone battery charge, you have to pedal hard for a good hour. Read more

Thunderstorm over the Sellrain

15. June 2015/0 Comments/in Austria/by Matthias

Towards the end of a beautiful early summer day in June 2015, I’m sitting on the terrace of the Solsteinhaus in the Karwendel mountains. From my panoramic viewpoint across the Inn Valley to the south, I watch as a thunderstorm with its rain showers slowly moves through the Sellrain Valley from the Stubai Alps.
