Full Moon over the Totalphütte

Full moon rising in the last sunlight over the Rätikon, Vorarlberg, AustriaThe midsummer weather at the beginning of July 2015 brought plenty of sunshine and unusually warm temperatures, even in higher mountain regions like here at the Totalphütte at 2,385 m in the Rätikon. The cumulus clouds piled high in the warm air over the Swiss mountains, as well as the peaks of the Kirchlispitzen and Drusenfluh (2,827 m), glowed colourfully in the last light of the sunset, while the full moon simultaneously rose above the horizon – what a show!

Full moon viewed from the Totalphütte, Rätikon, Vorarlberg, AustriaAlthough the ascent to Schesaplana was made more difficult by the soft snow, the dry and stable summer weather provided ideal conditions for a circular hike along the southern and northern Rätikon high-altitude trails. After the first night at the Totalphütte, the Carschinahütte and Lindauer Hütte were the next stops, where I experienced more fantastic sunsets and moonlit nights, lots of fun and interesting encounters.
