Radiant Autumn on the Great Ahornboden
Gradually, the sun dissolved the stubborn morning mist still lying in the narrow and shady Riss Valley, and the golden autumn forest shone, first vaguely, then with full brilliance. A cloudless sunny day in October is the perfect time to experience one of the most magnificent natural spectacles in the Karwendel.
From September to November, the Great Ahornboden, set against the mighty rock faces, forms a contrasting stage for the gnarled sycamore maples, which, as solitaires or in groups, glow in a golden autumnal spectrum, seemingly trying to outdo each other in their expressive display.
Since not all trees lose their leaves at the same time, each day offers a different, unique scene. Of course, this impressive spectacle is well-known, so every year, given suitable weather, many photographers, hikers, and connoisseurs make their way along the toll road to Alpe Eng.
