Picture-perfect autumn day at Lake Achensee
A Föhn weather situation brought plenty of sunshine and temperatures of 17 degrees Celsius to Lake Achensee in Tyrol at the end of October – ideal conditions for a trip into the picture-perfect Tyrolean landscape, which looks almost too good to be true.
While Munich is still hidden under a thick grey blanket of fog, the clouds are clearing at Lake Tegernsee and a bright sunny day is beginning. Even though the scenery invites you to linger, I’m drawn further south over the Achen Pass. From the large hikers’ car park on the main road that runs along the eastern shore of Lake Achensee, I look out over the holiday resort of Pertisau with its numerous hotels and guesthouses. Behind it, the backdrop of snow-capped mountain peaks, mountain forests in the autumnal colours of glowing yellow larches and red-gold beeches, and a bright blue sky above unfolds. Two weeks ago, I already experienced a glowing autumn day at the Großer Ahornboden, which is not far away as the crow flies behind the Sonnjoch (2,475 m) visible in the back right of the picture, and I’m enjoying one of the last warm days of the year in this dreamlike Tyrolean mountain world.
