Quiet Night in Smögen

No, the title doesn’t refer to Christmas in Smögen, although a winter stay would certainly appeal to me: snow and ice, twilight, few people and cosy hours in a warm apartment, instead of summer, sunshine, traffic jams on the roads and crowds in the alleys. We were there too, and thus part of the tourist masses. The title refers to our relaxed stay at a quiet pitch. It’s also about how individual, unique and peaceful experiences are possible even in highly frequented travel destinations, with respect and curiosity.

Of course, the Smögenbryggan harbour promenade and the picturesque old fishing and captain’s houses in the village are absolutely worth seeing, the restaurants are inviting and the food is delicious. Focusing on such a place can also be advantageous. Fortunately, in addition to such “hotspots”, there are plenty of other interesting places to discover without infringing on the privacy of the locals, taking away their local retreats from tourism, or exploiting their hospitality. For example, we found a place to sleep in an official car park. We only put up the roof tent for the night. Live and let live.
