Hike to Krivica Bay on Lošinj

Headland with rocky coast, pine forest and turquoise sea at Krivica Bay on Lošinj island, Kvarner Bay, Croatia

The headland shown is located in the south of Lošinj at the well-known Krivica Bay. This bay forms a sheltered anchorage frequented by many sailing boats and yachts. The hike to the protected pebble beach or the rocky coast is also well worth it for swimmers. To get there, you can park on the ridge near the St. Ivan chapel on the road from Veli Lošinj to Mrtvaska and walk down to the sea – though you’ll face a half-hour climb and 230 metres of elevation on the way back.

It begins in Borik Bay and leads along the bays of Porto Šešula, Cuanguski, Mala and Vela Draga, and Sunfarni to Krivica Bay. Here, you have a great chance of spotting a local pod of dolphins. Since 1987, the Adriatic Dolphin Project Blue World has been looking after the protection of the dolphins living around the islands of Cres and Lošinj. In the neighbouring Balvanida Bay, there’s also a small restaurant which is perfect for a break. As a day hike, you can continue the path and round the south-eastern end of Lošinj island back to Veli Lošinj.

Sailing boats and yachts anchored in Krivica Bay surrounded by rocky coast and pine forest on Lošinj island, Kvarner Bay, CroatiaI spent a long time looking for a motif that iconically represents the rocky coasts of the island of Lošinj. The sea, the rocks and the pine trees were all meant to be in it. I didn’t come across my ideal vision of a free-standing tree on a cliff or something similar. The selected cover photo at the very top captures my idea and the beautiful coasts of the islands in Croatia’s Kvarner Bay quite well.
