Santorini: A Promising Day Dawns

A dramatic sunrise over the iconic St. Spyridon Church with its blue domes in Oia ushered in another promising and eventful day of travel on Santorini. Only from autumn to spring does the sun, rising further south, allow for this constellation with the church and the staircase in direct backlight. This wasn’t the result of planning, but simply an unexpected travel experience. For that, I was grateful, and that’s why I appreciate travelling so much.

Therefore, I captured this unique moment in this special place with my own style and individual skills. Fortunately, at this early hour, I had the spot all to myself, just as I later had Londsa Castle with views of Oia’s windmills at dawn or the perspective from the eastern side of the church.

The gusty wind painted patterns on the water’s surface and drove the clouds before the widening strip of dim twilight. The white facades adopted the pastel palette of the sky, until finally the sun first broke through gaps in the clouds and then poured golden light over the houses from a clear sky above. Pure cinema.
