Where fishermen tell stories

2. October 2025/0 Comments/in Greece/by Matthias

People silhouetted against the sunset at a chapel above Parikia Bay, Paros, Greece

On the way back from the hike in Paros Park, we stopped at a viewpoint above Parikia Bay just in time for the sunset. After the sun had disappeared behind the horizon, we drove to Parikia harbour in the dusk – where the sea never sleeps and the fishermen tell stories. Read more

Sundowners in Naoussa

1. October 2025/0 Comments/in Greece/by Matthias

Fishing boats in the Old Port of Naoussa in front of the white houses of the old town, Paros, Greece

After a relaxed day on the sea, we returned to the port of Naoussa in the early evening. In the light of the warm evening sun, we went on a journey of discovery into the old town. Fishing boats bobbed picturesquely in the old fishing harbour. On the pier, tables were being set for guests to have dinner. We eventually watched all this over a drink on the terrace of the Sommaripa Bar. Read more

By boat through Naoussa Bay

1. October 2025/0 Comments/in Greece/by Matthias

On the excursion boat in Naoussa Bay, Paros, Greece
After our first explorations of the island of Paros in Parikia, Antiparos and Aliki, we spent almost the entire next day on a boat trip around the large bay of Naoussa, in the north of the island. Read more

A feast for the senses in Aliki harbour

30. September 2025/0 Comments/in Greece/by Matthias

Boats at sunset in Aliki harbour, Paros, Greece

Even though the day started off grey and rainy, it ended with a spectacular finale for all the senses in Aliki harbour. After a stroll through Antiparos in the rain, the evening concluded with a magnificent sunset and plenty of culinary delights during a convivial dinner. Read more

The First Morning on Paros

29. September 2025/0 Comments/in Greece/by Matthias

Sunrise on the terrace of the holiday home on Paros with a view of Parikia Bay

After the overnight crossing from Piraeus to Paros, a first sunny day began in the heart of the Cyclades. Despite arriving late after midnight, I woke up before sunrise and was too curious for my first impression of the island. “When rosy-fingered Dawn appeared in the early morning”*, I sat on the terrace of the holiday home and let the scents of sage, mint, and thyme from the surrounding bushes, the mild and clear air, and the pure colours wash over me. Not even the knocking and hammering from the nearby construction site bothered me – the off-season on the islands is building season. Read more

One last drink in Oia

9. November 2024/0 Comments/in Greece/by Matthias

A Greek barkeeper mixes a drink at the counter of Hassapiko Bar in Oia, Santorini, Greece

On the last evening before our departure, we found the “Hassapiko” Bar in Oia still open and decided to toast a great stay in Santorini with one last drink. We had celebrated in the same way with friends in the Athens nightlife, where we also discovered new mixed drinks, such as the Greek version of the Mojito with Mastiha liqueur. Read more

Oia All to Myself

9. November 2024/0 Comments/in Greece/by Matthias

Dawn over the windmills and the sea of houses in Oia, Santorini, Aegean Sea, Greece

Enjoying the panorama of Oia on Santorini in silence and deserted is, firstly, only possible at dawn and, secondly, during the off-season. This is precisely the peace and relaxation we had hoped for in November at this location, and we were not disappointed. The opposite can be found at sunset during the peak season in summer, when travellers crowd shoulder-to-shoulder on all terraces and paths. In addition to the overnight guests on the island itself, who pilgrimage to Oia every evening, countless day-trippers from cruise ships also join them.
