Loviste – Farewell from Dalmatia
Loviste is located in a small bay, right at the western end of the elongated Peljesac peninsula in Dalmatia on the Croatian Adriatic coast. A long mountain range forms the backbone of the peninsula; on the sunny southern slopes, highly prized red wines from the indigenous grape variety Plavac Mali, such as Dingač and Postup, are grown.
Along the coasts lie villages and towns shaped by the traditions of fishing and seafaring. The strait between Peljesac and Korcula forms a wind tunnel and offers a renowned sailing and surfing area.
In Loviste, however, you are far away from the bustling sights and leisure activities of Viganj, Kuciste, and Orebic. Perfect for the last few days of our trip through Croatia. From the pebble beach in front of the campsite, we relaxed and watched the activity in the small fishing harbour. Towards evening, the bay fills with yachts anchoring for the night and heading to the harbour restaurants for dinner.
In Loviste, holiday homes are also increasingly being built, and tourism is growing in importance as an economic sector. The two campsites are still manageable and are run by friendly owners in a family-like manner. Hopefully, Loviste can continue to maintain its relaxed atmosphere.
