Portoferraio Harbour and Old Town

As you enter Portoferraio Bay, Forte Stella (Star Fortress) is clearly visible from a distance. As the ferry slowly circles the Old Town, the octagonal Torre del Martello, the old harbour “Darsena” with the Old Town, and Forte Falcone (Falcon Fortress) come into view, promising anticipation of delicious restaurants, inviting bars and cafés, and historical sights such as Villa dei Mulini, where Napoleon resided during his first exile. Full of expectation, I look forward to my stay on the island of Elba, which I had chosen with my family due to its diverse offerings of culture, gastronomy, beaches, and hikes on a relatively compact and manageable island.
