The old harbour of Portoferraio

The old harbour of Portoferraio, known as the “Darsena”, is equally popular with sailors and yacht owners for the romantic backdrop of the old town that surrounds the harbour. With Forte Falcone (background), Forte Stella and the Torre del Martello, the largest town on Elba is guarded by imposing fortifications, which is why Portoferraio was once considered impregnable.
Symmetrically in the middle of the harbour basin, the Porta a Mare opens up access to the alleys of the old town and up to the Museo Napoleonico. A stroll along the harbour promenade eventually led us to a small restaurant with a few tables facing the harbour and the old town, where we were treated to delicious fresh fish.
