They accompany us throughout our journey in Sweden: the brightly painted wooden facades. In the harbours, at boathouses, warehouses and many farmsteads, Swedish red or Falu red traditionally still dominates. The latter name refers to the traditional manufacturer of the distemper paint in Falun. Read more

The fishing village of Kyrkesund is located on the narrow sound between the islands of Härön and Tjörn. The now clear, cool morning light made the colourful facades of the houses glow even more intensely. Like proud swans, yachts with white sails passed through the sound, contrasting with the deep blue of the sea and sky. Read more

In Björholmen, we had finally arrived in the archipelago of the west coast. Here, on the north-west coast of the island of Tjörn, we found a perfect blend of Scandinavian nature and culture, and atmospheric moments in a magnificent landscape. Read more

We had left Hanö Bay on the south-east coast of Sweden in the morning and had since passed Gothenburg heading north. At Stenungsund, we left the mainland and drove onto the island of Tjörn. Three mighty bridges make the journey easy. Their clearance height of over 40 metres gave us a first wide view of the fjords, sounds and islands of the archipelago landscape on the Swedish west coast as a welcome. Read more

The province of Scania in Southern Sweden boasts some of the most beautiful sandy beaches in the country. Our journey therefore took us from Skanör and Falsterbo on the west coast in a wide arc along the southern coastline to the long Hanö Bay on the east coast. The route led through Trelleborg and Ystad, past beautiful beaches at Löderups Strandbad and Mälarshusens Strandbad. North of Stenshuvud National Park, 20 kilometres of sandy beach stretch as far as the eponymous island of Hanö, which is already in the province of Blekinge. The beach slopes gently into the sea and is perfect for swimming, while the dunes behind it are ideal for cycling or hiking. You’ll find holiday home settlements and campsites scattered through the coastal forests. In Rigeleje, we found a relaxed campsite in the pine forest right behind the beach. Smaller towns like Kivik, Åhus or Sölvesborg are perfect for a stroll. The combination of a relaxed beach stay, nature experiences and lively towns promised a stay full of contrasts and unforgettable impressions. Read more

Skanör and Falsterbo was our first destination when we finally returned to Sweden after many years. At that time, we had only briefly visited the lido with its colourful beach huts in the dunes on the fine sandy beach on the last day before departing by ferry from nearby Trelleborg. Therefore, we really wanted to see the place again. This time, we travelled via Denmark, as we had chosen Copenhagen as an intermediate stop on our journey. From there, it was only a short drive over the Öresund Bridge to Scania, Sweden’s southernmost province. A few kilometres further south, we finally reached the Falsterbo peninsula and its magnificent sandy beaches. Read more
