Sailing yacht off the coast of Hiddensee
The sailing yacht slowly passes by Vitte beach on Hiddensee in the morning sun. It was a warm and almost windless summer morning; the Baltic Sea lay calmly before me, and the small waves on the sandy beach were neither visible nor audible. The sea stretches flat to the horizon, which is barely distinguishable from the sky, making it seem endless. This atmosphere reminds me of the film The Truman Show, where the protagonist survives a stormy night that almost capsizes his sailing yacht, then sails towards the seemingly endless horizon on calm seas.
The island of Hiddensee boasts miles of continuous, fine sandy beach along its west coast, perfect for long walks. All visitors – clothed or nude – traditionally share the beach, though dogs are not allowed on the beach within village areas. However, there are still plenty of beach sections available for them. Sailors will find many interesting areas around Hiddensee and Rügen, whether on the open Baltic Sea or in the lagoons and passages between the islands.
