Cala Gonone in the Gulf of Orosei

Cala Gonone is the only settlement along the wild, rugged coastline of the Gulf of Orosei. Nestled in a truly spectacular setting, it is separated from the island’s interior by a rocky ridge of the Supramonte Mountains, lying between the deep blue Mediterranean Sea and towering mountain peaks.
The dramatic scenery rivals that of some of Italy’s most famous coastal regions, including the Amalfi Coast, the Cinque Terre, and the Cilento Riviera.

Cala Gonone can be reached either via a now well-developed road from the main link between Dorgali and Baunei through a tunnel, or via a scenic and spectacular, but even narrower, steeper and more winding little road from the north over the Passo Littu. The port of Cala Gonone is both a calling point for sailors and fishermen and a starting point for individual or organised boat trips along the coast to the unique rocky coves and dream beaches, such as Cala Luna, Cala Biriola, Cala Mariolu, Cala Goloritzé or the “del Bue Marino” and “dei Cormorani” caves, or at Cala Luna.
