Uppsspitze, Lechtal and Allgäu Alps

At 2,340 m, Daniel is the southwesternmost and highest peak of the Ammergau Alps, forming one of the highlights of the region known as Zwischentoren, located between Reutte, Fernpass, and Grainau. After an early ascent from the Ehrwald railway viaduct via the Tuftlalm, I chose the route over the Grüner Upps and Uppsspitze. The western slopes had only isolated patches of snow, but after a week of unusually mild weather for early November, the ridge and south face were almost snow-free again, allowing for a safe ascent and ridge traverse. After about 3 hours, I reached the summit of Daniel and looked back over the ridge to Uppsspitze and the panorama of the Lechtal and Allgäu Alps. Later, I descended via the south flank to the Tuftlalm and, in the warm evening sun with a magnificent view of the Ehrwald basin, the western flank of the Wetterstein, and the Mieming Chain, returned to the valley.
