Capoliveri’s old town

Old town of Capoliveri, Elba, Tuscany, Italy

In the southeast of Elba lies the Calamita peninsula and the mountain village of Capoliveri on the slopes of Monte Calamita. Capoliveri has a picturesque old town, at its heart is the ‘good room’ Piazza Matteotti. The bars and restaurants in the square and the adjoining alleys are regularly packed on summer evenings – Capoliveri is one of the most visited places on Elba. From the alleys and many hidden spots, there are always magnificent views of the Golfo Stella or towards Porto Azzurro. Its fantastic location and atmosphere have also ensured that many Italians and Germans own holiday homes here. Despite its somewhat more sophisticated flair, the village has remained well worth seeing.
