On the Beach of San Pedro

On approach to the island of Sao Vicente in the west of the Cape Verde archipelago, a sweeping sandy beach captivated me. The surf is impressive to behold and always a great challenge for the fishermen of San Pedro in their boats. The incoming sea turns landing into a rocking dance on the waves, requiring all the skill of the seafarers. Meanwhile, the fishermen’s wives wait patiently and expectantly on the beach for a successful catch.
