Lake Molveno – first glimpse of the Brenta

27. October 2023/0 Comments/in Italy/by Matthias

Clouds drifting around the rock towers of the Brenta Dolomites in front of autumn-coloured mountain forest, Molveno, Trentino, Italy

On the way for an autumn visit to Lake Garda, I had chosen the Paganella plateau and Lake Molveno as a stopover this time. The Brenta massif has been on my tour list for a long time, so I wanted to get a first personal impression of the mountains. We left the motorway at Mezzacorona, then headed west into the narrow Noce Valley and then wound our way up and southwards via Andalo to Molveno. Read more

Trentino trip turns into a breakdown trip

29. May 2022/0 Comments/in Italy/by Matthias

Car breakdown and towing on the Brenner motorway near Rovereto (Trentino)

We had planned a short trip to Lake Ledro in Trentino. However, we only made it as far as Rovereto, just short of our actual destination. First, the coolant warning light came on. Then, within seconds, the temperature shot up into the red zone. During an initial stop, I topped up the empty expansion tank just to reach the next exit. But less than two kilometres further on, the same thing happened again. So, I pulled over into an emergency lay-by and called the breakdown service. The coolant had now completely leaked out. Tranquil Morning on Lake Garda

30. June 2020/0 Comments/in Italy/by Matthias

Wisps of cloud and patches of mist in the morning sun over northern Lake Garda, Veneto, Trentino, Italy

The last wisps of cloud and patches of mist from the night’s thunderstorms drift weightlessly in the first sunlight over the calm water surface and the massive backdrop of the steeply rising mountains on Lake Garda. The summit of Monte Baldo already reaches into the sunrise, while the western flanks and the northern end of the lake still rest in the dark shadow of the mountain. From this early and delicate twilight, a dazzling, hot summer’s day slowly develops. The popular holiday region awakens. The first isolated dog barks from the surrounding villages. Then comes the commuter traffic. Waste collection, farmers, and tradespeople provide the further soundscape. Everyday life. Read more

On the Monte Baldo High Road

29. June 2020/0 Comments/in Italy/by Matthias

View from the Gasthof Bocca Navene on the panoramic road on Monte Baldo, overlooking Lake Garda, Trentino, Italy

In June 2020, the initial widespread lockdown and travel restrictions due to the Corona pandemic were temporarily lifted. We discussed the possibility of a trip to Lake Garda and on to Verona, weighing up, for example, health risks against the urge to discover new destinations (such as the Monte Baldo Panoramic High Road). Ultimately, we decided to spend 4 days at Lake Garda and in Verona. Read more
