Evening atmosphere at Cap Dramont

8 October 2009/0 Comments/in France/by Matthias

View from Cap Dramont of the sunset over the Bay of St. Raphael, Côte d'Azur, France

At Cap Dramont on the edge of the Estérel Nature Park, you can see a wide stretch of the Côte d’Azur, from the Gulf of Fréjus across to St. Tropez. Numerous (chilling) legends surround the tower and its possible builder on the offshore Île d’Or. Dramont beach in the foreground was the scene of the Allied landings during the Second World War. The scenic cape also lies on the long coastal hiking trail which, particularly from St. Raphael heading east, runs along the Estérel coast past many small bays, beaches and impressive rock formations. More pictures of Cap Dramont, the Estérel Nature Park and the Côte d’Azur can be seen in the ‘France’ gallery.

View of Anthéor and Cap Roux

8 October 2009/0 Comments/in France/by Matthias

The Bay of Agay with the settlement of Anthéor and Cap Roux, a mountain of the Estérel Massif, Côte d'Azur, France

From Cap Dramont, the view stretches across the Bay of Agay with the settlement of Anthéor and the Pic de Cap Roux, a mountain in the Estérel Massif. The Côte d’Azur coast is so contrasting; on one hand, it’s urban, noisy, and densely populated like Cannes, Nice, etc., while on the other, you find quiet and more natural areas such as the Estérel Massif and the Côte d’Or with its impressive coastal road. In Agay and Anthéor, there are also few architectural blights, but above all, the nature park attracts visitors for hiking, climbing, and mountain biking. More pictures of Cap Dramont, the Estérel Nature Park, and the Côte d’Azur can be seen in the ‘France’ gallery.

Full Moon over Cap Dramont

7 October 2009/0 Comments/in France/by Matthias

Evening atmosphere with a full moon at Cap Dramont, Estérel, Côte d'Azur, FranceAt Cap Dramont, I experienced the full fascination of the Estérel coast in a small area: a rugged rocky coastline with bizarre rock formations made of the reddish volcanic rock that characterises the Estérel Massif, Mediterranean macchia, and the deep blue sea of the Côte d’Azur. From the summit with its lighthouse, at an incredible 162 metres above sea level, you can see Agay Bay, Anthéor and the Pic de Cap Roux in the Estérel Nature Park to the northeast. In the opposite direction, you overlook the Gulf of Fréjus, the Massif des Maures and the peninsula near St. Tropez. Near Plage de Camp Long, there’s a car park – the access road from the N98 is a little inconspicuous on a bend – from which the summit and many viewpoints are easily accessible. I experienced atmospheric and peaceful moments here, especially at dusk. More pictures of Cap Dramont, the Estérel Nature Park and the Côte d’Azur can be seen in the ‘France’ gallery.
