Bagno delle Donne in Talamone
As if the old town of Talamone wasn’t already worth seeing enough, the bathing spot Bagno delle Donne lies by crystal-clear water, picturesquely nestled between the steeply rising black-grey rocks of the Tyrrhenian Sea coast, overlooked by the towers of the medieval fortress and surrounded by the wide panorama featuring Monte Argentario and Giglio Island.
Between the rocks, flat areas have been concreted, offering everything that belongs to a typical Italian Bagno: pairs of sun loungers under colourful parasols, changing rooms, toilets, a bar, and, overseeing it all, a Bagnino (lifeguard). Early in the morning after sunrise, I only encounter the two night-watch lifeguards, tired and exhausted, sitting at their lookout point on the rocks, waiting for their relief.
A large number of the sun loungers still rest in the shadow of the castle hill, awaiting the coming rush of bathers. The charming atmosphere, the vibrant spectrum of colours from the sky, sea, rocks, sun loungers, and architecture attracts a diverse crowd: Roman jet-set from the surrounding villas or yachts in the harbour mingle with holidaying Italian families, locals, and international tourists.
