Rounding off summer on Lake Chiemsee
What could be better than spending the last calendar and weather-wise summer weekend outdoors – and this time not on a mountain, but on Lake Chiemsee, within sight of the Alps. At late summer temperatures, I was invited by a friend to go sailing and swimming on her sailing boat on the “Bavarian Sea”.
From the berth in Prien, we headed out onto the open water with the help of the outboard motor, past the island of Herrenchiemsee. Then we waited for the wind – time for a drink.
Unfortunately, not much wind picked up – quite unlike the briefly strong breeze during our stay at Easter – but the afternoon on deck was all the more relaxed. We slowly sailed southeast to our planned anchorage.
There, we took a refreshing dip in the clear water, probably for the last time this year, hence the term “rounding off summer”. Finally, we also took the opportunity of the almost flat water surface for a photoshoot with beautiful reflections. I had brought a waterproof transport bag especially for this. However, since I could already stand so close to the shore, I didn’t have to worry as much about the camera.
Towards sunset, we returned to the harbour, moored the boat, and finally enjoyed the alpine glow, from Hochstaufen over Kampenwand to Wendelstein, from the jetty.
Now I’m looking forward to what will hopefully be a sunny autumn, my favourite time for tours in the brightly coloured mountain forests.
