Mojito Mastika, Galaktoboureko and more …
Back from our first walk in autumnal Athens, we experienced the glowing dusk with a view of the Acropolis from our hotel’s roof terrace. Other guests were already sitting here comfortably with their first bottle of wine.
A sociable, fun and delicious evening with friends in a nearby restaurant awaited us. Our friend hadn’t just chosen a restaurant for the view of the ancient sites and the Acropolis, but was also following the culinary recommendation of a Greek friend. So we were excited to try Mojito Mastika, Galaktoboureko and other Greek food and drinks.
For an aperitif, we had a choice of various cocktails. We were curious about the Greek Mojito variation with local Mastika liqueur, which is made from the resin of mastic trees and combines sweetness, citrus and fragrant mint aromas with a typical Greek flavour. Did we like it? Let’s just say we bought a litre bottle of Skinos Mastika liqueur in the duty-free shop on the way home.
After a delicious main course, what was supposedly the best Galaktoboureko in Athens was promised for dessert and, at least according to the Greeks present, delivered. To make up for this opulent dinner, we would have to put in an extra lap during the city tour the next day.
