Buying a Car in Uckermark

Overnight stay with the roof tent by Lake Wolletz in Uckermark

Our beloved Sharan had transported our family across Europe for almost 20 years. Now, with a fault on the main board, it was no longer economical to repair. So, we were looking for a VW Up as a smaller successor, as we already used an Alhambra for camping. In the Munich area, prices for small cars were significantly higher than in northern and eastern Germany, so after detailed online research, we found a trustworthy private seller in Uckermark, Brandenburg. We took the upcoming vehicle inspection as an opportunity for a trip to this region, which was still unknown to us.

The Up was located in Schwedt an der Oder, the most populous town in the Uckermark district in the northeast of Brandenburg. The town is dominated by the large oil refinery. However, the Lower Oder Valley National Park, the Schorfheide-Chorin Biosphere Reserve, and many lakes offer diverse and worthwhile destinations in the surrounding area. By Lake Wolletz, we found a lovely pitch for the still cool May night.

The condition of the vehicle matched the pictures and description, so we quickly agreed on a deal. A week later, I was on the train with the new number plates to pick up the car.

With just one change in Berlin, I reached my destination of Schwedt without delay – but of course with a face mask (Corona!) – and was finally able to start the return journey.
