Sunrise in the Stubai Alps

Clouds passing over the Übeltalferner in moonlight, Becherhaus, Stubai Alps, South Tyrol, Italy

After a star-studded and therefore short night, I wait for the sunrise at Becherhaus in the frosty dawn. Above the cold glacier surfaces of the Übeltalferner, a dynamic play of clouds formed, carried up the mountain slopes by the wind as wisps of fog, where they dissolved again in the warmer air layer. While in the west the soft light of dawn replaced the night sky full of stars, the moon still shone brightly in the east over the silent high mountain world of the Stubai Alps.

The hut warden had long since begun his work preparing breakfast when many of the guests finally looked forward to the beginning of the summer day. The sun majestically rose above the Stubai Valley, promising another sunny day for the descent via the Teplitzer Hütte back into the Ridnaun Valley.
