Corn poppy – the red messenger of summer

On the drive back from a hike in the Bavarian mountains, a striking carpet of red corn poppy blossoms glows near Garching. Bright red poppies on lush green stems cover a huge field right next to the road, causing many drivers to stop.

People are sitting, jumping and running through the field taking pictures – close-ups of the flowers, portraits, selfies – these kinds of motifs are perfect for filling up your Instagram account. The corn poppy is a messenger of summer, often a companion to golden-yellow grain fields, for example on the rolling hills of Tuscany. After a warm early summer in May 2018, it can already be seen extensively across Bavaria.
