Quiet autumn morning at Lake Achensee
To experience Lake Achensee in Tyrol with a mirror-smooth surface, you need to be lucky with the weather and catch a calm day. On the other hand, you also have to get up early to make the most of the time before the first fishermen, sailors and the start of boat traffic. By the time the Achensee-Schifffahrt ferries are out and about, the lake’s surface is criss-crossed with waves, making the reflections of the boats dance at first and finally causing the magic mirror to fade as the surface becomes choppy.
The sunny autumn morning followed a clear night sky and promised another mild day. Gradually, the morning mist cleared, lifting the curtain on a magnificent panorama of the mountain peaks that rise around the fjord-like Lake Achensee. The northern half of the lake runs directly in a north-south direction. The sailing boats moored at Achenseehof therefore only slowly emerged from the cool shadows of the Rofan mountains and the Unnütze to the east into the warming morning sun.
In Pertisau in the south, hotel guests can already enjoy their breakfast in the morning sun on the lakeside promenade, as can the early hikers on their way along the western shore to the Gaisalmhütte or up to one of the Karwendel peaks.
