Sunset over the Baltic Sea

Since 2012, the adventure pier in Heiligenhafen has extended several hundred metres into the Baltic Sea, offering a magnificent view of the long sandy beaches of the Steinwarder peninsula or the historic beach villas on the Graswarder. Its northward orientation also makes it the perfect spot to watch the sunset over the Baltic. Of course, this only applies to the summer period, when the sun still sets far enough north and thus over the sea horizon.

People watching through the panoramic windows of the Meereslounge on the pier ofAfter a short summer rain shower, which also conjured up a magnificent rainbow and possibly let me catch a glimpse of a leprechaun, the sky opened up after all for a colourful sunset. This romantic evening atmosphere doesn’t need to hide behind more southerly climes. Windsurfers and kitesurfers certainly get their money’s worth here anyway. Personally, though, I’m missing another 5 degrees in temperature — both water and air — to awaken any desire for a swim.

The so-called Meereslounge on the pier, with its panoramic windows, offers a wind- and weatherproof spot with the best views, and the wide armchairs invite you to linger. The room is also designed for events and is popular for weddings — the Heiligenhafen registry office offers wedding ceremonies there.
