Gold at the end of the rainbow

Man on the Heiligenhafen pier watching the rainbow over the coast and the Graswarder peninsula

Just before sunset, the evening sun conjures up this rainbow over the coast near Heiligenhafen on the Baltic Sea. The Graswarder peninsula and the Fehmarn Bridge glow golden in the last rays of sunshine after a brief summer shower. By chance, the man on the pier is standing right beneath the rainbow – or could that be the fairy creature Leprechaun from Irish mythology?

There, a dwarf-like goblin, one of Ireland’s landmarks, is often associated with the gold at the end of the rainbow. This is also the origin of the legend familiar to us about a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.

More pictures of Heiligenhafen can also be found in the Germany image gallery.
