Yxlan, Archipelago Island – Holidays like on Seacrow Island
The Stockholm archipelago coast comprises thousands of small and large islands, only a few of which are permanently inhabited, but the remaining houses are more in demand than ever as weekend and holiday residences and are used by their owners.
The archipelago island of Yxlan is one of the larger islands with permanent residents and can be reached by car ferry. Nevertheless, we spent secluded days in mostly absolute peace and felt like we were on holiday ‘like on Seacrow Island’, Astrid Lindgren’s stories about a Swedish family in their summer house on an archipelago island, which were filmed as a TV series, as the actual filming location is on the nearby islands of Rödlöga and Svartlöga.
We stayed in one of the red wooden houses typical of Sweden, surrounded by green forests full of blueberries (and mosquitoes and biting ants), a deep blue sea, smooth, weathered rocks and romantic sunsets. Numerous paths allowed us to explore quiet bays, lighthouses, lakes and forests, and the waters between the islands by boat.
