Sunrise over Madeira

The view from Pico do Arieiro (1,818 m) over Madeira is breathtaking even by day, so the summit seemed the perfect place to experience a quiet and lonely full-moon night and the sunrise over the island.
Madeira is a rugged island; above the cliffs, long ridges stretch from the evergreen zone with its laurel forests up into the barren and craggy mountains, while deep-cut valleys reach far into the island as far as the steep rock faces of the central massif around Pico do Arieiro and Pico Ruivo. Short and extensive hiking opportunities can be found everywhere to experience the unique nature.
