Historic Town Hall of Wasserburg am Inn

The ensemble of the Town Hall, Church of Our Lady, and Town Tower is grouped around Marienplatz in Wasserburg am Inn, with their oldest structural elements dating back to the 13th century. The church tower is 65 metres high and once served as a watchtower. The Town Hall’s façade has been restored in the Late Gothic style, and the small Town Hall chamber with its 16th-century frescoes is well worth seeing. An original pillory can also be found on the outer wall – a railing-less platform about 2 metres high with fixtures for chaining people. In the adjacent lanes of Wasserburg’s Old Town, many colourfully restored façades can be admired. It’s also worthwhile taking part in a guided city tour to learn many stories about sieges or the time of the plague, based on preserved historical relics – lanes, doors, or buildings.
