In the fishing harbour of Torri del Benaco

Torri del Benaco is fortunately not quite as crowded as its southern neighbour Garda or Malcesine to the north, if one can even say that in the height of summer. Surrounding the round harbour basin with its cafes and restaurants are the Piazza Calderini and several pretty palazzi, overlooked by a 14th-century Scaliger castle – no less impressive than the fortresses in Malcesine or Sirmione.
Inside this castle lies a small but worthwhile museum, and on the south side, an original, roughly 250-year-old greenhouse for lemons and oranges; plus, the magnificent view from the battlements and the tower over the town and southern Lake Garda is well worth it. Colourful fishing boats can be admired in the harbour, and numerous family-friendly restaurants line the lakeside promenade, making it a great spot for families to spend an exciting and eventful time with their children.
