Sunrise at the Watzmann

I’m standing in the fresh morning air and complete silence at the Feuerpalfen viewpoint near the Gotzenalm, over 1,000 metres above St. Bartholomä and the Königssee, looking up at the summit of the Watzmann, which is glowing in the first light of the sun. The first mountaineers will already be up there enjoying this summer morning and the view over the Berchtesgaden National Park – the saying “the early bird…” comes to mind. Even though this spot is one of the most visited highlights in the Berchtesgaden National Park, nothing can take away the magic of this moment. For me, this is the start of the last day at Lake Königssee, before heading back to the Jenner via the lower Hirschenlauf path.
