Panorama of Dresden’s Old Town

Panorama of Dresden's Old Town from the Neustadt banks of the Elbe, Saxony, Germany

From the banks of the Elbe in Dresden’s Neustadt, I look out over the silhouette of the Old Town with its numerous buildings and towers, from the Semperoper to the Hofkirche, Royal Palace, Brühl’s Terrace, Frauenkirche, Academy of Fine Arts and so on. This magnificent view of Dresden is fascinating by day and night, thanks to the modern lighting, and was already appreciated in the 18th century and immortalised by painters like the famous Canaletto in numerous paintings that can be admired today in the “Old Masters” Picture Gallery in the Zwinger.
