Dresden’s Neumarkt and Frauenkirche

Comparing it to the houses on Dresden’s Neumarkt, the impressive scale of the rebuilt Frauenkirche becomes clear. The perspective is roughly similar to a painting by the Venetian painter Bernardo Bellotto, known as “Canaletto”. His famous cycle of vedute, 14 large-format paintings depicting views of Dresden in the 18th century, can now be seen in the “Old Masters” Picture Gallery in Dresden’s Zwinger. The most famous work is probably the view from the Neustadt Elbe embankment of the panorama of Dresden’s Old Town.
