Reed grass at Lake Chiemsee
There are many shore zones with large stands of reed grass at Lake Chiemsee. So, on a spring-like, warm Easter Saturday, I walk along the shore south of Seebruck, looking for interesting patterns in the reed zones backlit by the sun.
The narrow horizontal stalks rise metres high, thus emphasising the vertical. These lines are broken by crooked and bent stems and panicles. The opposite lakeshore forms a horizontal line and structures the area in the background. A play with sharpness and blur, the compositions of complementary colours blue and orange, as well as the high-contrast but warm backlighting.
It’s fun, it challenges your creativity, and perhaps another collage created from the raw material will be shown here later. Since it’s almost windless, there’s no need for long exposures to achieve motion blur effects today.
Due to the dry spring, the water level of Lake Chiemsee is very low and the shallow shore zones are therefore very wide. The pebbles also provide a good foreground, in which the highlights of the reflections form a beautiful bokeh.
The next day, the atmosphere was completely different: at dusk, a fresh, strong wind picked up for a short period, which the local kitesurfers used for a ride into the sunset.
