Delicate Cherry Blossoms in Airy Pink
Just like two years ago in April, this year the splendour of the cherry blossoms allows us to experience many beautiful aspects of winter retreating and spring relentlessly advancing. On a ski tour at Spitzingsee in the Bavarian Alps, I immerse myself once more in a winter landscape with snow-covered mountain slopes, which have, however, already melted considerably in the warm sun. The once pure white now shows increasing gaps, from which brown grass, earth, or grey rocks emerge. In the valleys and lowlands, nature’s first colours are sprouting, heralding new life – the fresh, bright green of leaves and meadows, the blue of crocuses, or the pink of the sea of blossoms from the Japanese ornamental cherry.
A gentle breeze makes the branches with their full flower clusters sway back and forth like candy floss. After a few days, the many blossoms detach, and their petals shower down to the ground like snowflakes.
