Step into the ring at Zirkus Liberta

White cat balancing with a mouse - Zirkus Liberta

Like every summer, the Sinnflut Festival takes place in Erding with many exhibitors, free live music and other events. This year, the “smallest circus in the world”, Zirkus Liberta, was also a guest. Director Dieter Schetz is proud that this circus consists “exclusively of creatures native to our region – generally known as pets (…) pets with extraordinary abilities”. His attitude is shaped by a partnership between humans and animals; he rejects the display of exotic animals outside their natural habitat.

Even the director’s appearance – with long hair under a black top hat and a twirled moustache – seems to some children like a character from a fairy tale. With his facial expressions, he makes the audience laugh, but he can also look threatening and intimidating. One by one, a hypnotised rooster, a daring duck, and balancing cats and mice perform many a little trick. The pig Rosa von Schwarte enjoys roaming around the festival grounds while the entertaining show takes place.
