Windmill in Oia, Santorini

Oia on Santorini, the volcanic island in the heart of the Greek Cycladic islands, is one of those enchanting places that exudes a fascinating charm despite mass tourism. Of course, during the day, the town is occupied, for example, by middle-aged women who have booked a creative holiday, and whose task for the day is to capture the typical cube-shaped buildings, the contrasts of the dazzling white walls against the deep blue sky, the vibrant volcanic colours of the crater walls, and the shimmering sea in watercolours, drawings, and so on. Thanks to the course leader’s task, for instance, to dissolve the geometric rigidity of right angles, participants are easily recognisable by this unifying element in their works. The highlight of the day is always the afternoon leading up to sunset, when the town, bathed in warm light, offers one of the most beautiful views of the arriving ferries, the Caldera with its islands, and the vast sea.
