Profitis-Ilias and Chozoviotissa Monastery, Amorgos

In contrast to the north coast with its many bays and safe harbours, the south coast of Amorgos rises like a steep barrier from the Aegean Sea. From the tiny bathing cove of Agia Anna, a view opens up to Mount Profitis Ilias and Chozoviotissa Monastery, which nestles like a swallow’s nest against the high rock face of Amorgos’ south coast. The monastery, as well as other places on the island, became well-known through impressive shots in the film “The Big Blue”. However, this view is just a small glimpse of the contrasting sights of this tranquil island in the southeast of the Cyclades.
