Banff Mountain Film Festival
The Banff Mountain Film Festival is the most renowned mountain film festival in the world and takes place every year in the Canadian Rocky Mountains. It started in 1976 as a one-day event and now lasts a whole week, having initiated an extensive programme of screenings, workshops, and competitions for films, books, and photography under the umbrella term ‘Mountain Culture’. For those who can’t or don’t want to travel to Canada, there’s the opportunity to see a selection of the films on the Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour in Germany and Switzerland, with many dates taking place in Germany. The Radical Reels Tour has also developed as a spin-off – “Cliffs and first ascents, breathtaking downhill trails and plunges into cold water – the festival’s action-packed film selection,” is how the organiser presents the offering.
